I always have a big smile on my face when I hear young musicians playing so called traditional classic jazz on a very high level. This is exactly the case with the Debut album from Axel Schmitt who is walking in the footsteps of the great Tenor Masters from the last century. Axel’s warm tenor sound , the way he forms the melodies and that we always hear the tune behind the solo is masterfully executed. He’s accompanied by the German jazz treasure Thilo Wagner on Piano and Rudolf Stenzinger on Bass.
